The two minute-rule

When starting a new habit, take two or less than two minutes to do it. This makes it easy to start off with a new habit. For example, you can take a minute to read a self-affirming quote or do a pushup. It becomes easy to perform as doing the right thing makes it easier to continue doing it. The actions that follow after the two minutes could be challenging that’s why you need the ” gateway habit”. The gateway habit will lead you to a more productive path.

The gateway habit could be the easiest activity for the day followed by the most challenging activity. In truth, this will help in mastering the habit of showing up. By this, you are in a position to build a habit and improve on it as time goes on. Because you have to standardize before optimization.

The rule makes habits easier and helps one master a difficult skill. Further, the two minutes become a ritual, “the starter packer”. Visualizing the beginning helps you slip into a deep focus of actualization. This is similar to doing the same warm-up before working out.

However, for progress, and accountability you need discipline. Discipline is an essential quality for achieving success in any area of life. Discipline involves self-control, self-regulation, and the ability to stick to a plan, even when it’s difficult or unpleasant. Consistency means maintaining a steady course of action over time, regardless of external circumstances.
