Indoor gardening is still enjoying a surge in popularity as more people take up indoor plants to add aesthetics to their spaces. Well, for others having house plants plays a much more significant role, more like keeping pets. This is because humans have an innate connection to nature. And the link can be fulfilled by viewing nature through a window or having potted plants.
Of course, there is just the inherent fact that looking at a nice plant instead of tiled floors and white walls is more pleasant for people. Indoor plants, with their green leaves and blooming flowers, help calm people. It is a seemingly hard-wired thing inside a human being’s brains that seeing nature in some form in the typical cold, hard environment of an office helps them feel better mentally.
Having an office or a living space with limited windows and a limited number of plants can actually cause drops in creativity, productivity, and increased boredom. Here are some indoor plants that require little to no maintenance. All you need to know is where in your home to place them (depending on the amount of light they require) and how frequently to water them.
Snake plant
This plant has long, stiff, vertical leaves. It requires little light making it an ideal indoor plant. Water it about every 10 days or when you notice the leaves start to droop. Snake plants emit oxygen at night, therefore, purifying the air and making them ideal for the bedroom.
Succulents
These come in numerous varieties and can be used to enhance your home décor. Transplant them into pretty pots and leave them to prosper. They require very little watering. You can grow several succulents in the same pot or grow them separately. They require bright light when kept indoors or out and should get at least six hours of sunlight a day. Otherwise, the leaves will start to fall off.
Lavender
You will recognize them from their purple color and a common scent used for most air fresheners and burning essence. This plant is known to induce sleep and help people relax. It contains chemical components that are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, in return it inhibits neurotransmitters to promote rest.
It has the ability to grow and spread quickly, which is why it is considered a weed in certain parts of the world. As a culinary element, it is used in salad dressings, sauces, beverages, various teas, and as a flavoring spice for a number of cultural dishes. Lavender essential oil is highly sought after and widely available.
Alovera
This plant is mainly known for its healing properties when it comes to skincare, most cosmetic products from lotions to soaps all have Aloe vera extracts. The plant itself can also play an important role when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. Aloe vera releases oxygen at night that purifies the air and in return, it helps you breathe easily and sleep soundly.
Devil’s ivy
I have no idea why it has such a weird name, but it is pretty. It has heart-shaped foliage that trails or climbs, it’s also one of the easiest house plants to grow. It’s tolerant of all kinds of conditions and neglect. This is my favorite. This plant requires little sunlight, therefore, it can thrive in rooms that aren’t well-lit. It also purifies the air making it a great plant for a bedroom. Water infrequently and watch it grow.
