The deputy president debate cannot be compared with the Nairobi gubernatorial debate. This did not seem like a debate on what they will do, and why. Well, it was more enjoyable to watch Justina Wamae vs Ruth Mucheru battle it out. They both had the will to speak their goals as well as criticize each other.
The two are not typical Kenyan politicians who have records of corruption, hate speech, or poor performance. But have the will to defend what they believe in and can work for the country. If the deputy president position was an “elective one” just like a governor position one of these women would be.
The Root’s party manifesto is way more popular than the Agano part one, simply because they have ideas outside the box. Legalizing marijuana, farming snakes, suspending the constitution, commercialization of snake rearing, and exportation of hyena testicles for medicinal use in China. These face praise and criticism in equal measure.
The economic ideas could bring fast money but implementing them in Kenya would be more expensive and could cause a danger to the youths. Bringing in control personnel in the planting, processing, and usage of marijuana would cause economic sabotage in Kenya.
Our already corrupt systems are likely to contribute to the misuse of the plant and poaching. Further, Kenyan youths are already struggling with alcohol addiction, and legalizing cannabis would make the depressed population lose it.
On the other hand, Ruth Mucheru is a woman that nature. She speaks the language most Kenyans relate to, hence can easily communicate and see into the realization of her goal. Her personality fits right with her party manifesto. That focus on routing social evils and corruption and creating systems and institutions that are above politics. The party also focuses on having accountable leaders that do not compromise their principles but serve with integrity and accountability.
